Fishamble: The New Play Company

Before was commissioned by Fishamble with the support of the Arts Council, National Theatre Studio (London), Pavilion Theatre and The Strollers Touring Network. Its premiere tour was also presented in association with the Strollers Touring Network. 

From the same team that produced Forgotten, Underneath and the Olivier Award-winning Silent, Before has been described as “a musical for people who hate musicals”. Written and performed by Pat Kinevane, it starts out as the straightforward tale of a man arriving in Dublin to meet the daughter he hasn’t seen in 17 years. Pontius needs to get home in time to milk the cows and feed the dog, but before that he must choose a present for his estranged daughter. Set in Clery’s of Dublin, on the very day the iconic department store shut down - for good - this father’s journey from the isolation of his Midlands home, to the madness of O’Connell Street is both beautiful and strange.
